The fact that 14% of European staff members are engaged recommends that many European managers struggle to do either. They recognize that the manager-employee partnership is the most essential motorist of engagement and organic growth, and they come close to the task of enhancing engagement with the same rigor, discipline, and commitment that they approach various other service issues.

The bright side is that most of Europeans are disengaged but not annoyed. They are sitting on the sidelines, waiting to be influenced. They are winnable, and firms can repair this space by much better furnishing their managers with the understanding and development they require to be much better people managers.
